If a patient books for an osteopathic consultation, they should expect to spend up to one hour with the practitioner. A detailed case-history will be taken, then the patient will be asked to undress to their underwear and they will be examined to assess what is going on. If appropriate they will then be treated or if necessary referred back to their General Practitioner or for other therapy. Osteopathic treatments include mobilisation of joints, manipulation and soft tissue. The type of treatment will depend on the patient and presenting complaint. Some patients may only require one or two treatments, some may require 8-10 depending on how long they have had the problem. Some elderly patients may require maintenance treatment returning several times a year.
